Intermediate Project Engineer

The Opportunity

We are seeking an experienced Intermediate Project Engineer to join our project delivery team and support the successful execution of engineering and fabrication projects. The successful candidate will play a key role in engineering and project execution activities from early design through fabrication and delivery. This position acts as a technical and project interface between engineering disciplines, project management, procurement, and fabrication teams.

In this position, you will bring a high level of technical expertise, collaboration, and initiative to projects to meet the needs of our clients. We are looking for a team-oriented individual who can also work independently, with strong problem-solving and communication skills, and who works well in an entrepreneurial environment as part of a multi-disciplinary team.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Prepare and review engineering design documentation, including drawings, specifications, calculations, and reports, ensuring compliance with regulatory and industry codes, standards and client specifications.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to plan, execute, and manage projects, ensuring adherence to project schedules, budgets, and quality standards.
  • Develop and review project scopes, objectives, and deliverables, and ensure alignment with client requirements and industry standards.
  • Coordinate and communicate effectively with clients, vendors, subcontractors, and internal stakeholders, including fabrication teams, to facilitate project progress and resolve issues.
  • Conduct site/shop visits and inspections to monitor project progress, identify potential risks, and ensure compliance with project specifications.
  • Participate in project meetings, providing technical expertise and guidance to support decision- making and problem-solving.
  • Manage project documentation, including purchase orders, change orders, and other procurement activities, ensuring accurate record-keeping and documentation control.
  • Assist in managing project scope, schedule and technical deliverables.
  • Participate in constructability reviews and lessons learned processes.
  • Support quality assurance and inspection activities as required.
  • Assist in the preparation of project proposals, estimates, and budgets, and provide input on resource requirements and project scheduling.
  • Stay updated with industry trends, technologies, and best practices, and apply relevant knowledge to optimize project execution and drive continuous improvement.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering (Mechanical, Chemical, or related field).
  • Registered Professional Engineer (P. Eng.) in Alberta.
  • Minimum of 5 years experience as a Project Engineer in the Oil and Gas industry.
  • Previous EPFCM experience required.
  • Previous plant operations experience an asset.
  • Proficiency in project engineering methodologies, tools, and software.
  • Strong proficiency with MS Office tools such as Excel and Word.
  • Strong technical knowledge and understanding of engineering principles and practices in the Oil and Gas sector.
  • Familiarity with relevant codes, standards, and regulations.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively with multidisciplinary teams, fabrication shop teams, vendors, and client stakeholders.
  • Strong organizational and time management abilities; self motivated and detail-oriented, with the ability to prioritize tasks in a dynamic work environment.
  • Demonstrated problem-solving and decision-making skills, with a proactive and solution-oriented mindset.

Additional Information:

  • This position will be based in our office in Nisku, Alberta
  • Occasional travel to client sites may be required
  • Must be legally entitled to work in Canada
