Project Controls Lead

The Opportunity

We are seeking an experienced Project Controls Lead to establish, manage, and continuously improve project controls and scheduling practices across our portfolio of engineering and fabrication projects. This role is critical to ensuring projects are planned, tracked, forecasted, and reported with accuracy and timeliness, supporting successful project execution from project award through engineering, fabrication and delivery.

The Project Controls Lead will work closely with Project Managers, Engineering teams, Fabrication teams, and clients, providing clear insight into schedule performance, progress, risks, and forecasted outcomes.

Key Responsibilities

Project Controls & Governance

  • Lead the development and implementation of project controls standards, tools, and best practices.
  • Establish and maintain project baselines (scope, schedule, cost, and progress measurement).
  • Develop and manage project reporting, dashboards, and performance metrics.
  • Track and report on budget vs. actual performance for all critical project metrics.
  • Provide accurate forecasts for schedule, cost, and resource requirements.
  • Identify cost, schedule and other variances and propose corrective actions
  • Support risk identification, mitigation planning, and change management; Integrate risk impacts into cost and schedule forecasts.

This position requires the successful candidate to perform tasks and responsibilities of a physically demanding nature throughout the workday, including: lifting (in excess of 50 pounds) on a regular basis; walking, standing, pushing, pulling, bending and related physical activities on frequently throughout the workday.

Project Scheduling

  • Develop, maintain, and control integrated project schedules for engineering, procurement, fabrication, and construction activities.
  • Perform schedule logic reviews, critical path analysis, and progress measurement.
  • Analyze schedule impacts related to scope changes, delays, and productivity issues.
  • Support recovery planning and schedule optimization where required.
  • Ensure schedules align with contract requirements, client expectations, fabrication shop capacity, material availability and engineering deliverables.


Collaboration & Stakeholder Support:

  • Partner with Project Managers to support planning, execution, and decision-making.
  • Advise Project Managers on performance trends and recommend corrective actions.
  • Interface with clients to present schedule updates, forecasts, and mitigation strategies.
  • Provide data-driven insights to help leadership make strategic decisions.
  • Support proposal and estimating activities with schedule development and execution strategies.
  • Mentor project team members on scheduling and project controls fundamentals.
  • Work with engineering and fabrication teams to ensure accurate quantification of change impacts.

Qualifications & Experience

Education & Training

  • 8+ years of experience in project controls and scheduling within oil & gas, energy, or industrial projects.
  • Professional designation (PMP, AACE, or equivalent) considered an asset.
  • Completion of a Construction Management or related technical education program is preferred; equivalent work experience will be considered.
  • Background in engineering, fabrication, construction management, or project management.

Experience:

  • Previous experience in a Project Controls Lead or Senior Project Controls role preferred.
  • Proven experience supporting engineering and fabrication-focused projects.
  • Strong proficiency with scheduling tools such as Primavera P6 and/or Microsoft Project.
  • Strong proficiency with MS Office tools such as Excel and Word.
  • Solid understanding of EPC, EPCM, and fabrication project delivery models.
  • Experience working on multi-disciplinary projects with multiple stakeholders.
  • Strong analytical, organizational, and communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently while influencing teams without direct authority.
